Baby found a cochayuyo treat!
Cochayuyo. It’s a thing. Chileans love this seaweed treat that washes ashore. In fact, there is a thriving export business of it to Japan. This baby scored that day. (She is not smoking a cigar!)
But why is this my post? I am a children’s author, not a marine biologist. Well, cochayuyo plays a staring role in my first chapter book ¡Caballo! (Caballo is the Spanish word for horse.) In it, my young heroine, Rena, pursues an illusive, riderless, bag-wearing horse through the hills and by the seaside of Chile.
Where will he lead her on her aventura? And why care about Chilean seaweed? I’m so sorry, but the book has not been released. You will have to sit tight. But a lonely, elderly woman is in peril.
My family lives in Chile – my grandbabies are Chilean, through and through, and enjoy this delicacy of the sea. I have visited this beautiful country many, many times, and I am working on my palate.
